The Mathematics program at St. Thomas emphasis’s on the essential skills and practical implications that Mathematics plays in everyday life. Our teachers deliver a curriculum that is activities and investigation based, with connections to real-life experiences.

We use contemporary forms of assessment that drives both teaching and learning and is aligned to the progression points and the standards for the Mathematics Domain of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.

These Mathematical domains consist of:

• Number (Counting, Place Value, Addition & Subtraction and Multiplication & Division)
• Space
• Measurement, Chance and Data
• Structure
• Working Mathematically

In order to learn and work in a range of mathematical experiences, the students are given opportunities to complete tasks individually, in pairs and in co-operative groups. Tasks are based around problem solving, mental calculation, outdoor mathematics, skills practice, games, the use of calculators and ICT.
